We Are the Men They Left Behind: A Call to Action for My Brothers 30+

Hey guys,

This one’s for all my brothers out there, especially those of us who’ve hit the 30+ milestone. I’ve been reflecting a lot lately, and I want to share something that’s been on my mind.

Our grandparents were undeniably the greatest generation to ever live. They sacrificed their lives to protect our future. Well, men, that future is actually NOW.

So, what are you doing with this incredible privilege we enjoy today? Yes, I know the economic times are tough, but that’s no excuse. Our grandparents laid down their lives to protect our freedom of choice. Sadly, some of us are choosing ways of life that are downright detrimental to our health. This doesn’t just affect us; it impacts everyone in our inner circle.

When we neglect our health, we end up alienating the ones we care about the most. What we do with our bodies today affects us in the future. You might not see it now, but the damage caused by poor food and lifestyle choices significantly impacts your physical and mental health.

In my career as a professional sales consultant in the health sector in Australia, I’ve had conversations with top healthcare clinicians about the high rates of health-related conditions we’re bringing upon ourselves:

  • Diabetes
  • Cardiovascular Disease (Dis-Ease 🤐)
  • Stroke/Heart Attack
  • Cancer

The list goes on. These conditions are often the result of poor lifestyle choices—choices that we have control over. You know the saying, “Use it or lose it.”

Think about it this way: If you owned a Ferrari, you wouldn’t put diesel in it. Sure, it might run, but not like it’s meant to. You’d be wasting half a million dollars. Most of us won’t own a Ferrari (though if you’re asking, my favorite is the F40—stay tuned for the F40FitMTBProgram), but let’s say you have a 2008 Toyota Hilux. It runs on petrol, the fuel it needs for optimal performance. It’s only a Hilux, but it’s the ONLY ONE YOU HAVE. You need it to last, so you invest time and money to keep it running as best as it can for as long as it can.

So why aren’t you doing this for your body, mind, and soul? News flash: YOU ONLY HAVE ONE BODY, ONE MIND, AND ONE INCREDIBLE SOUL. You’re going to need them more than ever as you get older.

I can hear some of you saying, “But Dan, what’s your experience with all of this?” Well, I was a fat man in my early 20s, thinking, “Is this it? Am I destined to be fat, miserable, and die young?”

Hell no! I’ve seen most of the older generation in my family either die young or live miserable lives. Growing up with zero guidance on how to live a clean lifestyle, it’s no wonder I ballooned to 120kgs. Deep down, I hated it.

I had to take charge of my own life. NO ONE IS GOING TO SAVE YOU. But here’s the good news: in our modern age of information, it’s easier than ever to acquire the skills and habits that can increase your longevity.

Remember those high-end health clinicians I mentioned? Many told me, “Dan, if only people took better care of themselves, we’d see a MASSIVE reduction in health-related issues.” This would also relieve the health system for those who truly need it.

Here are my top 5 tips for living a healthier life:

  1. Ditch the bad habits that don’t serve you.
  2. Practice daily breathwork.
  3. EXERCISE regularly.
  4. Incorporate cold exposure.
  5. Eat clean, whole foods.

These tips are basic and easy to adopt, but YOU have to be willing to DO THE WORK. No one else can do it for you.

Need help? Shoot me an email. I can assist with some basic tools, but I need to stress this: YOUR accountability to YOURSELF needs to be the strongest drive of all. Your body, your mind, your partner, and your children all rely on it.

Let’s pay homage to the Greatest Generation by adopting their mentality and fighting for a better future.

So, what are you doing to increase your chances of longevity?
